Your practice management software is the operational backbone of your practice. It handles patient scheduling, recall management, treatment planning, billing integration, and increasingly, patient communication. A poor choice creates daily friction for years; the right choice largely disappears into the background.

The five most-used PMS systems in Germany

Dampsoft, Charly (evident), CGM Z1.PRO, iZafe Dental, and Doctolib PMS each dominate different segments of the German market. Dampsoft and Charly hold the largest installed base among established practices; newer entrants like Doctolib PMS are gaining ground with cloud-first features.

What to evaluate before switching

Switching PMS systems is expensive and disruptive — plan for 3–6 months of parallel operation and staff retraining. Before committing, evaluate: data migration support (can your existing patient records be cleanly transferred?), GOZ and GKV billing integration depth, and whether the vendor offers dental-specific onboarding rather than generic software support.

Cloud vs. on-premise

Cloud-based PMS systems offer automatic updates, remote access, and lower upfront cost. On-premise systems give you more control over data location and do not depend on internet connectivity. For new practices, cloud is usually the right starting point.
